Club's Christmas Meal Postponed

The KVWK Xmas meet/meal has been postponed due to the snow. Val is currently trying to reschedule.

The Windmill have offered either 9th (Thursday next week) or 14th as dates they can fit us in instead. So far the 14th seems to be the most popular but if you have not yet replied to Val's email with your preference, please do.

The postponement will also give a second chance to anyone who previously could not make the original date. Please contact Val ASAP if you would now like to attend.

Chairman's report on the AGM

Thursday 5th November was not only Bonfire Night but also the night of our Annual General Meeting and for those who were not in attendance but may be wondering, it did not go off with a bang!!!

Formal minutes will be published as usual in the newsletter but as nearly half the membership did not attend, indeed may never have attended a club AGM before, I want to use the pages of our website to let members know the reasons why we have an AGM and really, the importance of taking part in the "format" of your club.

In its early years your club had only a "boy/girl" management with no formal management or constitution (club rules) and with the sudden departure of two such early management systems, both leaving the club in disarray, a new more "professional" approach had to be made if the club was to survive. As a result a club constitution was formed and a management team for various key roles was appointed nearly 12 years ago. Although the actual people appointed for those position changes as time goes by, as you would expect, the frame work has proved successful and gives your club strength and stability.

Of course our club must be fun for everybody but a well structured club provides more opportunities for members to become involved in administration and organising events and so on.

The AGM is important to attend to "air" your views on club matters but also provides an opportunity for nominations to stand for each key post. All officers, including I may add the chairman, has to stand down at every AGM and, if prepared to stand again, be considered along with any other nominations and elected by membership majority. In this way we have the opportunity to bring in "new blood" from time to time.

The AGM is also an opportunity to create new key posts if deemed necessary, as we did some time ago when setting up our web site. This post was taken over very adequately by Rob last year and what an improvement we have seen in our web site during the last year.

It is not all serious stuff as anyone at this years meeting will tell you but it does give all members an opportunity to express their views and take an interest in what I hope, as your newly elected chairman, is an interesting, informative and enjoyable hobby.

I do hope as many members as possible will participate in the various activities during 2010 and will make a point of attending the AGM in November 2010 and hope to see as many of you as possible at the Christmas meal on Thursday 3rd December at the Windmill. (I need to know numbers and menu selection by 20th November)

Finally, on behalf of the membership as a whole I take this opportunity of thanking ALL officers for their hard work and efforts in making the Kentish VW Klub the successful club it is today.
